It is very important that you thoroughly read and sign the bill of lading during the inspection. Also, read the terms and conditions that the auto shipper will give you before placing the car on the shipping carrier.

When you receive the car from the driver, review the bill of lading again to make sure you understand exactly what the driver has stated regarding the status of your car. If your car is damaged, make sure that you take note of the damages.  In order to be compensated, you have to make a claim to the auto shipping company within a two-week period.

Never wait until the last minute. It’s imperative that you check with your auto transporter to find out if they recommend any preparation information for international shipping, motorcycle shipping, boat shipping and auto shipping. Contact your shipping company and ask as many questions as possible about your responsibility in getting your vehicle, motorcycle, or boat shipped.  You may also find many Q&A questions on your shipping company’s Web site as well.
18  Kar Shipping Forum / International Car Shipping / International port and clearance charges on: January 31, 2008, 10:51:35 AM
Every country is different when it comes to International port and clearance charges.  There are document fees and off loading fees that are charged by the destination countries. The vehicle shipping company should inform you about these charges.  Keep in mind that you may be liable for import duties and taxes.

Not sure what expect from a your auto transporter.  You will want to find a company that will offer you reliable service.  The company that I dealt with offered Terminal Service, meaning, the auto transport company was equipped to pick up my car from my specified location.   I was able to contact them through their toll free customer service department to ask questions.  They have a state of the art vehicle tracking system.  I also took advantage of the insurance for added protection for my car against any unexpected damages.

I think driving is better especially when you are traveling less than 500 miles.

The majority require that the balance is due upon delivery in the form of cash, cashiers or certified checks.  Its important to make sure you communicate with the company so that you know exactly what their policy is.  Every company is different and company policies vary. You can get a free shipping quote either by filling out an online web form or by calling the toll-free number of the auto transporter. Remember, ask about any additional fees or hidden costs ahead of time so there are no surprises.
22  Kar Shipping Forum / Ask the Vehicle Shipping Experts / Re: How long will it take my vehicle to be shipped? on: January 29, 2008, 10:53:44 AM
It took me about 3 to 14 days to reach my point of destination. The distance between pick up and delivery, weather and traffic will all affect the total length of time. So, you should try booking your move a couple of weeks in advance, don’t wait till the last minute. However, some carriers can accommodate shorter notices.
23  Kar Shipping Forum / General Discussion / It pays to get the information first before you ship on: January 25, 2008, 10:00:46 AM

24  Kar Shipping Forum / Nationwide Auto Transport / Preparing to ship your boat on: January 25, 2008, 09:51:33 AM
If you are thinking about shipping a boat, here are some important tips below:

1. Lifeboats should be securely stored in the yacht cockpit or cabin. They cannot be transported on davits.
2. Remember that boat transporters are not responsible for preparing boats for transport. So, you are responsible for your own shrink-wrapping and all coverings must be securely fastened.  Also, they are also not liable for any damage caused by your coverings or torn shrink-wrap.
3. Transporters recommend that all wooden boats be transported on cradles. It’s important to make sure that all items in the cabin and cockpit are securely fastened or stored properly including dashboard electronics.
