Winterized your vehicle ahead of time by simply adding antifreeze, especially if you are traveling to a cold climate.  Make sure that you secure any loose items such as antennas. Also, disconnect car alarms and anti-theft device systems. Remember to remove any car covers because this is prohibited.

Don’t store items anywhere in the car.  It’s important to note that auto transporters do not carry any household goods shipping licenses and bonds. Any items stored within the car are not covered under carriers insurance. Also, an inoperable vehicle can still be transported but in most cases additional fees will more than likely apply because of the extra equipment and labor needed in order to transport your car. If your car is in rolling condition less fees may apply.

Never wait until the last minute. It’s imperative that you check with your auto transporter to find out if they recommend any preparation information for international shipping, motorcycle shipping, boat shipping and auto shipping. Contact your shipping company and ask as many questions as possible about your responsibility in getting your vehicle, motorcycle, or boat shipped.  You may also find many Q&A questions on your shipping company’s Web site as well.

How can I get a good vehicle shipping quote that is close to the exact figure and not be surprised with hidden cost?

You can contact the auto shipping company by filling out a web user form, email or calling their 800 or local phone number.  Make sure that you have the vehicle model, size, if operable or not, if you like an open carrier or an enclosed trailer, pick up location and drop off destination and the moving date.

There are two shipping cost: The cost of transportation that is paid to the driver before or after shipment. Then there is usually a non-refundable deposit to secure your order.   I recommend that you contact more than one company and compare shipping quotes.  Then decide what price you will pay for the car shipment based on the benefits available to you.

Basically, the cost of shipping is determined by the distance of shipping your car and how popular the shipping route is.  Keep in mind that auto shipping quotes are the estimated cost of shipping the vehicle. There are other factors that can affect the cost such as additional fees, etc.   Make sure that you do your research and be prepared to ask lots of questions so there are no unexpected surprises.  I recommend that you find a reputable shipper that has years of experience in transporting vehicles.

Transporting a car is serious business.  This job should be given companies that specialize in auto shipping. This will ensure that your car is safely transported.  A reputable vehicle transport company is known for its professional services, good customer support and representatives that guide you through the process.  Remember, each company has their own policy regarding the services they offer.  Before you even think about choosing a company, make sure that you read the contract thoroughly and understand everything service that is being offered to you.

It is recommended that you clean your vehicle a couple of days before your car is shipped for transport.  This will help you determine if there is any damage is to your car before it’s shipped.  Note any existing scratches and rust spots by taking a clear photo.    The purpose of all this is so that you have a record of the car's state before shipping.

Next, remove all belongings because in most cases, they will not insure lost items during transport.  Also, remove tools such as fog lights, ski and bike racks or spoilers from your car before shipping. Many car shippers will ask that you leave the gas tank under a half tank.  Also, make sure that you deactivate the car alarm for shipping.
