If you are thinking about shipping a boat, here are some important tips below:

1. Lifeboats should be securely stored in the yacht cockpit or cabin. They cannot be transported on davits.
2. Remember that boat transporters are not responsible for preparing boats for transport. So, you are responsible for your own shrink-wrapping and all coverings must be securely fastened.  Also, they are also not liable for any damage caused by your coverings or torn shrink-wrap.
3. Transporters recommend that all wooden boats be transported on cradles. It’s important to make sure that all items in the cabin and cockpit are securely fastened or stored properly including dashboard electronics.

Using your own trailer?  It has to be in good condition.  Keep in mind that time spent preparing a boat trailer will be billed to the your at the transporters hourly rate. Be aware that any damages resulting from a boat trailer in bad condition will not be covered by the transport company's insurance.

Make sure that all cabin windows are closed and taped on the outside. The windshield has to be removed, packed and secured below the cabin.

And if you are shipping a powerboat, remove all propellers, lights, antennas, and outriggers. Have a boat that is low height? Make sure that you remove the wheels, windshields and light masts. Also, each part of the trailer touching the deck must be padded properly in order to avoid damage.

Make sure you remove all canvas covers and store them separately to avoid tearing during shipment.  Remember that hatches and doors must be tied or taped on the outside to avoid leaking from rainwater.
