What will car transporting companies think of next? I just got off the horn with a car shipping company and they had the audacity to charge me an oversize fee for my Bronco. These are tough economic times. Car shipping companies should be giving discounts and freebies - not charging extra fees.

During tough times, it seems like everything goes up in price. But as far as oversize fees, this is not unusual. Cars and trucks that take up a large amount of space are normally charged an oversize fee.

larger vehicles weigh more thus the car transport trucks use more gas to ship also if your vehicle is really big the carrier might not be able to fit as many vehicles on there truck. Either way they should of told you in advance. The problem is sometimes you talk to some cutesy sounding girl on the car transport company end and they book you up not knowing anything (bubble head) and next thing you know the transport driver sees your vehicle and says its oversized. But oversize fees are  not unusual.

How can you sit there and say in this economy that us transporters should being giving discounts or freebies?  We are running a business too just like the one YOU work for/with.  Just because we are a different aspect of trucking/life, why should be cut our throats to make people like you happy?

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of shady transporters out there, but just the same....there are dozens more out there that are on the up and up and that are honest with their service.  I don't agree with some of the shady guys or not licensed carriers out there, but you as a person seeking a service should be more intentive about your needs and wants.  I mean, you wouldn't go to best buy and ask for a tv without seeing or talking to a salesman first, would you?

I'm not trying to be harsh or crass on this subject, but I happen to be one of the hard working O/O's out here that actually gives fair pricing and great service to whomever I transport for.  Some loads pay great, some loads pay bad, and some just pay enough....but you have to take the good with the bad.....esp when others get a bad rap for more then themselves.

If you really look into major shipping companies, you pay less...but sometimes get less service and care for your car.

Just my 2 cents.
