I would really like to hear from former clients of a shipping company to see what their experience was like, but how do I know for sure that their testimonies are real? I mean, the company could be giving me a bunch of fake names.

I agree with you. This is a tough one. For starters, I would request names and phone numbers, rather than just an email. Also, don’t take a list of quotes put together on a piece of paper as a reference. Anybody can write that without any real background. If you do get a list of people to talk to, ask very specific questions. Don’t take general answers such as “I liked them” or “everything was good” as an answer.
