Hire a Driver, Drive it Myself, or Use an Auto Transport Service?

When deciding how to transport a car the top two concerns seem to be convenience and expense. A close third is the safety and security of the car.

Hiring a Driver

Hiring someone to transport a car can be a tricky proposition. You need to ensure they have a current driver’s license, and no outstanding warrants. If they are arrested along the way, your car may be impounded. You will want to know if they have a clean driving record and if they have experience driving that distance. Knowing if they drink alcohol or use drugs will be important information to have as well. Be sure your insurance company will cover them as a driver to transport a car belonging to you. You may want to have full coverage insurance during the time the auto transport occurs.
Your hired driver will need transportation home. Most ads for drivers request they bring along a second driver in their own vehicle. Fuel for both cars, food for both drivers, and other travel-related expenses are covered on top of the payment for driving services.

Hiring a driver will put extra mileage on your vehicle. Be sure it is checked out and in good working condition before they transport a car to the new location. You will need to give your hired driver clear directions as to how to get to the new location and a means of contacting you should anything go wrong.

Drive the Vehicle Myself

Driving the auto yourself may be less expensive than hiring a driver, but there are still things to consider. Does your schedule permit the time you will need to transport a car to the new location? Have you ever driven that distance before? Do you know the exact route to take as well as alternate routes to the new location?

Expenses will include getting your vehicle checked out before leaving, and all transport-related costs such as fuel, food and drink for yourself, and any needed accommodations along the way. There will also be wear and tear on tires and vehicle engine. Be sure to keep in mind, if your vehicle is a lease, that going over in mileage will result in expensive added cost at the end of your lease.

Use an Auto Transport Service

Using an auto transport service to transport a car can provide convenience and monetary savings. Auto transport services are not usually as expensive as people assume they are. When compared to the cost of hiring a driver or transporting a car on your own, the savings can be great.

An auto transport service will securely load your vehicle and will save you time. Using an auto transport service also eliminates worries about additional mileage and wear and tear being put on your vehicle.
