A credit card seems safer, but the vehicle shipping company is telling me I have to pay in cash when my car is delivered.

Unless you pay the whole amount in advance, most car shipping companies ask you to pay the driver when your car is delivered. Unfortunately, truck drivers won't be carrying a credit card processing machine with them, so cash is the easiest option. If you don't feel comfortable with the idea, you can also buy a money order in advance and use that to pay.
